Volunteering

GFI is a social enterprise which has a history of carrying out voluntary work in the community. The Directors and Associates of GFI give a lot of their time as volunteers.

We keep our charges low by supporting our Activity sessions with a volunteer - making our services more accessible for more people.

We give free talks and presentations to groups about specialist items of equipment, presentations at Naidex and for other National charities, and provide a free helpline and research service for individuals nationally, helping them to find an independent Occupational Therapist in their area and local sources of support.

GFI sponsors an employee to spend one day a week working for the charity Centre of Excellence for Sensory Impairment www.coesi.org.uk, and we support young graduates as volunteers working with us to develop their skills and knowledge, in particular about disability awareness, equipment and adaptations – so they in turn can support their own family members and people in their wider network.

We provide a list of Independent Living Centres on our website - and we do this voluntarily and endeavour to keep it updated.

We make sure our volunteers benefit from working with us - we train and support them, enhance their CVs and  and give suitable references.

If you are interested in volunteering for GFI please contact us at info@goingforindependence.orgor telephone us at 01287 204204. We look forward to hearing from you.
